It's been a really busy start to 2025 in the Government Digital Service (GDS) and within GOV.UK One Login.
This week we were part of the launch of the blueprint for modern digital government with our Secretary of State, Peter Kyle providing a keynote speech from our offices in Whitechapel.
The important work we're doing in GOV.UK One Login is a key foundational aspect of the vision for the future and providing personalised services for users.
Additionally it was exciting to be able to announce the work we've been doing with the Office of Veterans Affairs and DVLA on the two first verifiable credentials that will go into the GOV.UK Wallet, which is powered by One Login and will ensure that only credentials bound to a strong verified digital identity can be stored.
I'm personally really excited to be working with the teams that are building the new generation of GDS digital products and can't wait to get them into the hands of users!

Jeff Hackett writes:
Let's talk about data governance. Data governance is a framework to manage, secure, and leverage data effective and efficiently. It ensures that data is accurate and accessible, supporting decision-making.
For Indigenous Nations, data governance is more than a process—it is about asserting sovereignty and aligning data practices with protocols, laws, and ceremony. An Indigenous data governance framework accounts for Indigenous Knowledge, protects sensitive data, and empowers communities to control how their data is collected, used, and managed.
With the expanding data landscape, data governance ensures data works for communities, not against communities. Despite the increased awareness of Indigenous Data Sovereignty, I continue to see extractive, colonial research/data practices.
As non-Indigenous researchers working in community, let's ensure that Indigenizing data practices remains a tool for self-determination and empowerment.

Joao Catarino published a report on Digital Governance: 78877-JoaoCatarino-ExtendedAbstract.pdf
Abstract:
Technology is the biggest story in business today. With the recent progress in all thing digital, constraints are being removed and new possibilities created, that affect everyone’s lives. This means a new digital revolution, generally denominated the digital transformation, which is now, more than ever, a reality. It is, therefore, necessary to understand this new wave, the meaning of digital transformation and how to govern it. Although this issue is not specific in the context of the public sector, i.e., within entities, organizations and public companies, it is of particular relevance in this context since, as a rule, it involves hefty investments and the production of cross-cutting services that result from activities and linkages between various institutions. An awakening to this issue is taking place in the public sphere, with a solid majority of countries including in their agenda public administration digitalization goals, but in too few cases is there a clear view of how to lead the transformation. The purpose of this study is to identify a framework to implement mechanisms concerning digital transformation governance that enable a holistic and integrated coordination in the public sector. To correctly build the framework, it is necessary to give attention to a new generation of C-class executives for the digital transformation, among which the chief digital officer. The ambiguity and contention that surrounds this role and the controversy between the itself and the chief information officer, leads to internal difficulties in organizations. In this study we also analyze the differences between these two roles and draw a new vision of the responsibilities associated to them.

Dej (Hammed) Ajani revised a 2023 report on #AIGovernance
He writes: "AI governance, though inherently complex, has become a global priority (Reference to multiple publications, drafts, and strategies released across Africa including the AU AI Continental Strategy). Nations are at varying stages of addressing these challenges, employing diverse mechanisms to mitigate risks and uphold ethical standards. This diversity reflects the multifaceted nature of AI governance, influenced by technological, cultural, and geopolitical factors..."
